Step 1: Select the Goals module from the Performance tab on the homepage
Step 2: Select Preferences under the "Goal Settings" section at the bottom left corner of the screen
Step 3: You can now see the goal-setting methodology followed by your company. By default, it would be “Mesh Goals: Agile Ownership System”, which is a configuration created by Mesh to enable you to get started with using the platform without worrying about the configuration.
Step 4: To change the Access control settings, you either need to create a new goal-setting methodology from scratch, or edit an existing methodology. You can find more details about creating a goal-setting methodology in this article.
Step 5: Regardless of whether you are editing an existing methodology or creating a new one from scratch, there would be certain default values for the Access Control settings, which you can determine by either scrolling down to the Access control section or using the side navigation.
Step 6: Once inside the Access control matrix, you can configure the access to Create Goals, View and Edit Goals and Upload and Download and View Insights for Goals. Each of them has been discussed in further detail below:
- Create Access
-
The Create access tab lets you define the access of workspace users to create objectives, key results and initiatives based on the role that the user has in the company. You can choose to set up separate permissions for Goal admins and managers or collectively set up rules for everyone in the organisation.
- Create Objective
For each of the roles mentioned above, the admin can choose to give them the access to create objectives at the following levels:
- Company
- Department
- Team
- Individual.
One or more of these levels can be selected via the dropdown menu that opens on clicking anywhere within the “Create Objective” column.
- Create Key Result
For each role, the admin can configure whether a key result mandatorily requires a parent, or can be created without a parent as well.
- Create Initiatives
For each role, the admin can allow/disallow the creation of initiatives based on the performance enablement process in the organisation via the checkbox.
- Create Objective
-
- View and Edit Access
-
View and Edit access for goals can be configured not only based on the roles within the company but also based on the ownership of a particular goal. Thus, the admin can choose to configure these permissions separately for owners of a goal, collaborators and the respective managers of these owners and collaborators.Separate permissions can be set for each of the following actions pertaining to a goal or initiative:
- View/Comment
- Edit
- Delete
- Update Status/Progress
-
Firstly, you have to select the entity (Objective, Key result or Initiative) for which the configuration has to be set up, and then they can proceed to configure the access as per roles.Permissions can be set for either only public goals, all goals (both public and private goals) or neither of the two (condition of no access).Note: Public goals are those that are visible to the entire company, whereas private goals are those that are visible only to the owners, collaborators and their managers

Insights, Download and Upload
- Insights
To help you unlock a deeper understanding of your goals and their progress, we have launched the Insights feature for our Goals module, more about which can be found here. With insights, you can gain actionable intelligence that empowers informed decision-making, accelerates growth, and maximises your chances of success. With the access control matrix, you can authorise selected company members to use the Insights feature, helping you enhance security and cut the noise for members who may not derive value from the feature.Depending on whether a user is a Goal admin, Custom admin or a Manager, permissions can be set regarding viewing and downloading insights. You can also set these permissions at the company level by enabling or disabling them for ‘Everyone’.Insights are further subdivided into individual and objective level insights, and permissions can be set independently for each of these types.
- Custom Tags
Using tags in goal setting allows for efficient categorisation, organisation, and easy retrieval of goals based on specific themes, projects, or attributes. You can configure the ability to view/assign, create, edit or delete tags using the Access Control Table.View & Assign involves the ability to assign a tag to a goal or view tags assigned by other people in the organisation. This is the default setting for every user apart from the Goal Admin and does not allow the user to create new tags, edit the content of an existing tag or delete the tag.Create, Edit, Delete, View & Assign involves the ability to Create, Edit and Delete a tag along with the ability to View & Assign the same.By default, only Goal Admins have the ability to Create, Edit and Delete a tag.
